The University has reached agreement on a new Staff Enterprise Agreement through negotiations with representatives from the NTEU and the CPSU. The University and representatives from both unions signed a Heads of Agreement yesterday, a copy of which has been published on the Enterprise Bargaining sharepoint site for staff to access.
This document summarises the changes to the current Agreement, including the new provisions that have been agreed to during the bargaining period. These details will be incorporated into the Australian Catholic University Staff Enterprise Agreement 2013 – 2017 - will be available for staff to access in January 2014 (subject to finalisation with all parties).
Staff ballot Once the new ACU Staff Enterprise Agreement document is finalised, the next step in the formal process towards approving the Agreement involves holding a ballot of staff. This ballot will enable eligible staff members (those who will be covered by the Agreement) to vote and indicate their approval or disapproval of the proposed ACU Staff Enterprise Agreement.
The following staff members will be eligible to vote in the ballot: (a) All Academic staff employed at Levels A to E and all sessional academic and casual academic staff members; and (b) All Professional Staff (casual, fixed term and ongoing) employed at HEW levels 1 to 9.
The following staff members will not be eligible to vote in the ballot: (a) Teachers who work in Centres (eg. ELICOS Teachers); (b) Senior Staff Members (eg. Directors and Executive Deans); (c) Religious appointments; and (d) Conjoint appointments.
How voting will take place – proposed timeline
On 23 January 2014, the proposed ACU Staff Enterprise Agreement 2013 - 2017 will be published on the Enterprise Bargaining sharepoint site for staff to access. Over the following two weeks, staff will be able to read the Agreement and ask any questions or seek clarification about the document.
From 31 January to 5 February, the University will hold information briefings to assist staff to understand the proposed ACU Staff Enterprise Agreement, and its inclusions, prior to voting.
Between 6-10 February, an electronic ballot will be undertaken. Eligible staff will receive information on how to vote and a link to the ballot website via email.
On 11 February, all ACU staff will be notified of the results of the ballot.
The results of the ballot will determine the next steps in progressing the new ACU Staff Enterprise Agreement. Staff will continue to be advised on progress through the Enterprise Bargaining Matters e-newsletter.
Note: Heads of Schools and academic staff members are reminded that the provisions of the current ACU Staff Enterprise Agreement 2010 – 2013 continue to be in effect until a new Enterprise Agreement is agreed, voted on by staff and approved by the Fair Work Commission. Therefore discussions regarding academic workload allocations for 2014 occur on the basis of the current Agreement provisions and the 2013 Academic Workload Model.
