2016 Queensland Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Network Conference

On 22nd July the School of Physiotherapy hosted the Queensland Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Network Conference: Experience Driving Innovation at the Banyo Campus.

The Queensland Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Network was founded in 1996 by Mary Lynch (Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy and Deputy Head of School, Brisbane) as a way to connect the physiotherapy community and provide up-to-date information to encourage best practice in rehabilitation physiotherapy.

Professor Suzanne Kuys (Head of School of Physiotherapy) has also been a part of the QRPN committee for the past 15 years in various roles but most recently in the capacity of Research Officer, facilitating network members to conduct and publish research and also coordinating an annual scholarship to encourage further studies in the rehabilitation arena.

Due to the key roles of several ACU staff in the evolution of the QRPN the organising committee thought that the 20th Anniversary year created an ideal opportunity to hold the conference at ACU.

The conference featured several high profile interstate and local presenters and included hands-on workshops which showcased our physiotherapy laboratories. Delegates were also given the opportunity to take tours of the newly expanded ACU Health Clinic.

A group of enthusiastic Year 3 physiotherapy students volunteered to greet the delegates and guide them around the campus and assist with food service. One of our students, Annette Stouter was also an integral member of the organising committee.

Over 100 physiotherapists from various rehabilitation settings around the state attended the conference.

2016 Indigenous Games

2016 Indigenous Games

In the last week of June, ACU Brisbane campus hosted the Australian Indigenous Games. Students and staff from the School of Physiotherapy worked alongside sports trainers from Sports Medicine Australia to provide immediate and prophylactic taping services to participants. Our services were greatly appreciated by the athletes.

Awards Night and Farewell to 2016 Students

As 2016 draws to a close, we are busily planning end of year events for our 2016 graduating students from both campuses. Prize winners will be announced at these events and we wish all graduates success in their careers.
