Professor Peter Wilson joined ACU in 2012 as the Head of School of Psychology. He has a distinguished research background, coordinating research programs in the field of motor and cognitive development in children and researching the intersection between emotion, cognition and motor development. He has led research programs on the use of virtual-reality technology in motor and cognitive rehabilitation in both adults and children.
Professor Wilson’s work is truly cross-discipline – as lead Chief Investigator on Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage projects, he works closely with scientists, new media artists and clinicians and has collaborated extensively with colleagues internationally. He is committed to learning and teaching and has developed and implemented several innovative curriculum projects.
Professor Wilson has published extensively in journals and books both in Australia and overseas and he regularly presents his research at domestic and international conferences.
Professor Wilson will step down from the Head of School assignment, to continue in his appointment as Professor of Psychology, focusing on research and the discipline's profile under the new Health Institute. Professor John Gleeson was successful for the assignment of Head of School of Psychology, commencing on Monday 21st April 2014.
Peter has been instrumental in recent reviews of postgraduate counselling programs, review of undergraduate and 4th year psychology, the Futures Project academic realignment into the FHS, the Psychology and Mental Health program in the emerging Health Institute, and the recent reaccreditation process for Psychology.
