Student Orientation and Induction
Many disciplines require that students make contact with you prior to placement. This provides an opportunity for you to share important organisational knowledge with the student, prior to their arrival. You may wish to consider forwarding materials regarding the organisational structure, site induction and links to policies and procedures.
Work health and safety
Host organisations are expected to:
- provide students who may be involved in hazardous work, information, instruction and training before they start work;
- provide students who could be put at risk from changes in the workplace with proper information, instruction and training before the changes take place; and
- provide managers and supervisors with the information, instruction and training they need to ensure that each student is safe from injury and risks to health while at work.
The first-day checklist provides you with a template of tasks you may wish to consider to ensure a smooth orientation and induction process. Review your relevant discipline resources for specific checklists.
