Topping out ceremony 8-10 Berry St

ACU is currently undertaking significant upgrades to the North Sydney property at 8-10 Berry Street, including the development of three additional floors.

On October 7 a ‘Topping Out Ceremony’ was held on the building site, as an acknowledgement of the overall completion of the building's new structure (known in building circles as topping out). The Ceremony included speeches, a barbeque and the raising of an olive tree to the roof of the building to symbolize growth and prosperity.

Paul Thanos, Project Manager from Buildcorp who is working with ACU on the project, says the ceremony is a traditional builders’ rite, which is important because it “signifies the completion of the structure and thanks all parties who have been involved from the client to the labourer”.

Once complete, the building will be used for teaching and practical clinical space for health science students. The olive tree will eventually be planted on level 4 of the building in the terrace gardens.
