Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching
Endorsed by the Department of Education and Training, the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) is a suite of national, higher education surveys that covers the student lifecycle from commencement to employment.
The Social Research Centre has been commissioned by the department as the independent administrator of QILT, including selecting and contacting students and graduates as well as publishing results on the QILT website.

Student Experience Survey (SES)
SES is a survey of current onshore undergraduate students. Formerly called UES, the survey focuses on how the student perceives the experience provided by their higher education provider including student support, learning resources, learner engagement, teaching quality and skills development. In 2015, the survey is being extended to non-university higher education institutions (for example, higher education colleges).
Survey period: August
Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS)
GOS is a survey of current onshore undergraduate and postgraduate students who have completed their course requirements six months before data collection. The survey focuses on graduate outcomes and graduate job prospects. The survey is replacing AGS and comprises updated questionnaires taken from the Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) and Graduate Destinations Survey (GDS) to better align with the current methodologies of labour market surveys that are used by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Survey period: November and May (+1)
Graduate Outcomes Survey – Longitudinal (GOS–L)
GOS-L will follow up graduates who have completed the initial GOS three years after graduation. This is similar to BGS which follows up graduates three and five years beyond graduation.
Survey field dates: February
Employer Satisfaction Survey (ESS)
ESS is a new survey being trialled alongside GOS. Students in GOS are asked to provide their supervisor/employer contact details. Once this has been provided, a questionnaire is sent to the employer to assess how satisfied they are with the graduate’s skills and training.
Survey field dates: November and May (+1)
