Portfolios for promotion

Event Name Portfolios for promotion
Start Date 24th May 2012 2:03pm
End Date 1st Jun 2012 2:03pm
Duration 8 days
Description

Overview

The aim of this workshop is to facilitate the process of designing, developing and implementing portfolios for progression to academic promotion.

In this workshop, we will work together to explain what a portfolio is and its role as a medium for self-reflection on a repository of evidence collected to demonstrate best practice in teaching, learning, leadership and research. This workshop will focus on practical approaches for developing reflections upon evidence, and should be useful for academics wishing to prepare for promotion or seeking to present their professional practice for other purposes such as grant applications or conference or publication biographies.

This workshop follows the Lunchbox session 'Overview of the revised academic promotions policy and procedures' presented by the Capabilities and Development (HR) team on 17 April 2012, and complements the 'Promotions Panel' component of their workshops.

Intended Outcomes

At the end of this workshop it is expected that participants will have:

  • Brainstormed enablers versus barriers to the concept of portfolios of evidence
  • Defined portfolios by examining some best practice examples as well as by eliciting examples from the group and critical reflections upon evidence
  • Used targeted language to write reflections for their portfolio on topics such as 'approaches to teaching and learning' or 'leadership and change' and linked these reflections with an examination of evidence
  • Recognised the importance of providing a portfolio structure that is easy to organise, maintain and adjust for diverse purposes, enabling timely collection of evidence that addresses relevant ACU guidelines and policies relating to academic promotions.
