Paid Parental Leave for mums and dads

ACU is leading the way in Australia with one of the most generous parental leave schemes in the country.
Under the Enterprise Agreement, fathers who nominate themselves as the primary carer will be entitled to 40 weeks leave at 60 per cent pay, provided they have been with the University for at least two years.
This is a further enhancement of the generous parental leave scheme for female staff who, after two years service, are entitled to 12 weeks maternity leave at full pay, and 40 weeks parental leave at 60 per cent pay. This entitlement is in addition to the government's paid parental leave scheme. Male staff at ACU will also continue to be entitled to 3 weeks paid parental leave at full pay.
The wider Australian community has sat up and taken notice, with the Sydney Morning Herald running an article in February 2011 praising ACU's proposed scheme.
ACU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Greg Craven, said"We are determined to promote gender equality and continue to attract and retain the very best staff...The tension of combining a paid job with parenting has been well documented, and it is in keeping with the university's mission to do everything we can to make ACU a family-friendly organisation.''
