Can I take a photo of an original art work purchased by the University and use the image for our Open Day flyers?

Ownership of the artwork does not confer ownership of the copyright. The copyright of an artwork remains with the artist, unless there was a specific contract term agreed when the artwork was purchased by the University. If you want to use the photo, you’ll need the permission of the copyright owner. Irrespective of the copyright owner, you will also have to consider the artist’s moral rights.
