Recycling

 

Recycling on Canberra Campus

 

Paper & Cardboard                                       

Paper should be placed into the recycling boxes in your offices. You will be notified by email when to place your box outside your office door for collection.  Cardboard should be placed in the bins near IT (Signadou) and stairwell near PPI (Blackfriars) However, if you have heavy or large quantities of paper/cardboard waste then please email maintenance and ask for assistance.

Plastics

Please note that all items of plastic are able to be recycled in the bins marked with the recycling sign. These bins are located in all staffrooms and on ground floor near cafe (Blackfriars) and kitchen near S4 (Signadou).   Basically if your plastic item has a recycle triangle it can be placed in these bins. There are also large yellow lidded recycling bins in both central gardens. Separate disposal of Paper and Cardboard would be appreciated.

The plastics, bottles and cans, collection area should not be contaminated with food.  Dirty containers are fine but please do not include quantities of food (this should be disposed of in the general waste bin).

General Waste

General waste should be placed in those bins marked general waste.  Note this bin goes directly to land fill.

Batteries

We do not recycle batteries

Polystyrene

A request to Campus Operations via maintenance email - for collection.

E-Waste

E-Waste is any type of computer/printer/screen/ equipment.  Campus Operations will store all items until enough is gathered to order a special recycling container.

Confidential Waste

Confidential waste is gathered in locked bins and certified destroyed by the provider.  A confidential bin is located near IT (Signadou) and in the stairwell near PPI (Blackfriars).  If you have a large amount of documents then please email maintenance and a bin will be brought to your office.

Light globes and Fluorescent Tubes

All globes are recycled.

Toner Cartridges

Campus Operations provides a toner recycling service.  Please place your old toner in the box that the new toner arrived in and leave at either reception.

Mobile Phones

We do not recycle these.

 

Recycling on Melbourne Campus

 

Paper & Cardboard

Paper and Cardboard should be placed into the cardboard recycling boxes placed around offices.  However, if you have heavy or large quantities of paper/cardboard waste then please email service desk and ask for a   240 litre recycling bin to be delivered to your office on a short term loan.

Plastics upto Level 7

Please note that all items of plastic (except the white plastic spoons/forks/knives/) distributed by Alliance Catering are able to be recycled in the bins marked with the YELLOW labels.   Basically if your plastic item has a recycle triangle it can be placed in the Yellow lidded bins.   Separate disposal of Paper and Cardboard would be appreciated.

Batteries

Polystyrene

Small quantities of polystyrene can be forwarded to Campus Operations via the internal mail system - for larger collections please forward a service desk request and arrangements will be made to collect.

A box is located on the ground floor (Reception) 115 Victoria Parade to collect used mobile phones.  This box is dedicated to the Kidney Foundation who receive monies as part of the collection.
