Broader Goals
Confirming the broader goals of Lifelong Learning
Contemporary analyses of the economic context, such as the OECD Jobs Study (1994), have provided a powerful rationale and justification for the realisation of the idea of lifelong learning.
That justification is linked directly to the economic policies and performance of countries and to the concomitant need for the continuing availability of a high-quality, skilled and knowledgeable workforce.
But this is only one of the goals of lifelong learning. The others - social inclusiveness, democratic engagement, and personal fulfilment - are quite as important as economic goals, if lifelong learning is to be achieved.
The Mission of ACU National marks it out as a University particularly appropriate and concerned to analyse, address and respond to these wider needs and to develop appropriate and wide-ranging educational initiatives accordingly.
