Open Day 2008ACU National’s two Sydney campuses will open their doors to prospective students in September as part of the Open Day program.
Prospective students from secondary school to non-recent school leavers, along with their families, are invited to discover their local campus, hear from lecturers about the courses available and speak with current students about what is really like to study at ACU National.

Forum on anti-terrorism lawsThe Melbourne Campus (St. Patrick’s) will host a forum seeking answers to the question How have the anti-terrorism laws impacted on human rights in Australia? on Thursday 11 September at 6pm.
The two speakers, Julian Burnside and Phoebe Knowles, are both highly respected solicitors with expertise in the area of human rights.
The Forum will be held at the Melbourne Campus’ Christ Lecture Theatre, at 115 Victoria Parade, Fitzroy.

Theology presentationThe School of Theology (National) invites members of the ACU National community to a presentation by PhD candidate Rev Andrew Peters titled, Leadership in the Church in the Emerging Paradigm of Diversity, on Friday 19 September.
The presentation will take place on the Brisbane Campus (McAuley at Banyo) at 12.30pm in room AB.32, and can be viewed at all ACU National campuses in the relevant Video Conference rooms.

Words Images Voices discussion at StrathfieldThe Strathfield Campus (Mount Saint Mary) will host a discussion exploring literature for children and young adults that “speaks of justice” on Thursday 2 October from 2pm to 4pm.
Presented by ACU National and the Edmund Rice Centre, Words Images Voices will feature award-winning authors and specialists including Nadia Wheatley, Libby Gleeson AM, Dr Robin Morrow, Susanne Gervay, Melina Marchetta and Maria Boyd.
The discussion, and morning tea, is open to parents, teachers, librarians and young people interested in discovering how writers and reviewers bring themes of social justice to young people.
Entry to the event, to be held at the Gleeson Auditorium, 25A Barker Rd, Strathfield, is $25 a person ($15 for students), with proceeds supporting the work of the Edmund Rice Centre for Justice and Community Education.

Public Forum: Conscientious objection – A right for all health professionalsThe Melbourne Campus (St. Patrick's) will host a public forum exploring issues of conscientious objection in the Victorian Abortion Reform Bill, moderated by Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven next Monday, 6 October 2008 from 5pm to 6.30pm in the Mercy Lecture Theatre.
“Conscientious objection – A right for all health professionals” will feature notable academics who will discuss conscientious objection from professional, philosophical, legal and ethical perspectives. The forum will examine the implications of this issue in clinical practice and for Victorian health generally.
Forum speakers include:
Professor Frank Brennan on “Human Rights Law and Freedom of Conscience”
Professor Brennan is Professor of Law in the Institute of Legal Studies at the Australian Catholic University and a nationally recognised human rights commentator.
Associate Professor Nicholas Tonti-Filippini on “Ethics and Professional Conscience”
Associate Professor Tonti-Filippini is Associate Dean of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Melbourne and a bioethicist and consultant on health ethics at a state and federal level.
Dr Helen McCabe on “The Health Professional Context on Conscientious Objection”
Dr. McCabe is a research associate at the Plunkett Centre for Health Care Ethics and is a registered nurse.
