Borrow, Renew and Place Holds

Borrow and Return

You will need your current ACU student, staff or approved borrower card to to borrow from ACU libraries. You will be issued with a printed slip with the date that items are due.  Items should be returned on or before the due date to the campus library from which they were borrowed. Check with your library for arrangements for after-hours returns.
  • Items borrowed must be returned in good condition by the due date
  • Late returns will incur penalties including fines
  • Loans are not transferable
  • Borrowing must be done in person, except in special circumstances

Loan Types

  • Standard loans - As per Loans Periods and Entitlements
  • Restricted loan - Overnight, 1 Day, 3 Day and 7 Day Loans
  • 2 Hour loan - Available from the Course Reading collection for use in the library
  • Videos and DVDs - 3 Day Loan

Find out what you have on loan and when it is due back:

  1. Go the the All ACU Campuses Catalogue.
  2. Click on Sign In.
  3. Enter ID number or barcode (AC followed by your student number or the barcode from your ID card).
  4. Enter your PIN (ddmm of your birthdate for students; staff please contact the Library if you are unsure of your PIN).
  5. Click on Logon.
  6. Click on My Library Record.
  7. Remember to click on End Session when you have finished to ensure that your details are not available to anyone else.

Check and Renew Loans

Items may be renewed in most cases provided the item is not overdue or on hold. This can be done in person, by phoning the Loans Desk at your campus, or online via the library catalogue. The Loans Periods and Entitlements page sets out the number of renewals available to different borrower categories.

You can renew loans online if:

  • They are not from Course Reading or a Restricted Loan.
  • They have not been placed on Hold by another borrower.
  • You have no items overdue you do not have fines of $10.00 or more.

To renew loans online:

  1. Go the the All ACU Campuses Catalogue.
  2. Click on Sign In.
  3. Enter ID number or barcode (AC followed by your student number or the barcode from your ID card). Enter PIN (ddmm of your birthdate for students; staff please contact the Library if you are unsure of your PIN).
  4. Click on Logon.
  5. Click on My Library Record, then Loans.
  6. Click on Renew All to renew all items, or click on the number to the left of the individual item you wish to renew.
  7. Click on End Session to clear your user information.

Place and Check Holds

ACU students and staff may place up to 5 holds on items already on loan from their home campus library. A Hold can be placed at the Loans Desk or using the library catalogue. An email will be sent to your ACU email address when the hold is ready for collection. Standard Loans are held for five days at the Loans Desk; Restricted Loans are held for one day. If not collected within this time the items are returned to the shelf and the Hold cancelled.

To place a hold on an item that is currently on loan from your campus library:

  1. Go the the All ACU Campuses Catalogue.
  2. Search for the item then click on the call number under location.
  3. If the item is on loan, click on Request.
  4. Enter ID number or barcode (AC followed by your student number or the barcode from your ID card).
  5. Enter PIN (ddmm of your birthdate for students; staff please contact the Library if you are unsure of your PIN).
  6. Click on Go.
  7. Click on Go again.
  8. A message will appear telling you that the item has been requested for pick up at a particular campus.
  9. Click on Basic Search to request another item or click on End Session if you have finished requesting items.
  10. You will be notified by email when the item is available
