Finding Journal Articles
Databases are a good place to start searching for online Journal articles.
Remember - not all Journals are available online. You can also search the Library Catalogue for Journal Titles that are only available in print.
Key Databases for Literature:
MLA International Bibliography
A very comprehensive source from the Modern Literature Association in the United States covering journals, books and dissertations in literature, literary theory and criticism and dramatic arts. Many Australian works are covered. There are links to full text articles in other databases.
Literary Reference Center
A database that provides users with information on thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and timeframes.
Blackwell Compass Journals - Literature Compass
Peer-reviewed surveys of important research and current thinking in literature.
Austlit
The authoritative Australian database for works by more than 100,000 Australian authors and literary organisations from 1780 to the present. Only a small part of Austlit is fulltext so you must check the Library catalogue or eJournals list at to see if ACU holds the title in print or online.
Finding Journal articles using the Australian Literary Studies bibliographies:
- The journal Australian Literary Studies has published an annual bibliography every year since 1962. This journal is held electronically from 1990 in Academic Search Complete.
- To find earlier articles not held electronically consult these print indexes in your library:
- The ALS guide to Australian writers : a bibliography 1963-1995 / 2nd ed. 1997
- The ALS guide to Australian writers : a bibliography 1963-1990
Note: If your library does not hold earlier issues of Australian Literary Studies, you can request an article from another campus via an Inter Campus Loan.
