Congratulations to our airport welcome desk volunteers
(L-R) Pro Vice-Chancellor, International, Mr. Chris Riley, ACU international student Holly Theodora (Indonesia) and Ms Diana Stevens, Associate Director, International Admissions and Student Relations.
In 2015 StudyNSW and Sydney Airport in collaboration with education providers, reintroduced an Airport Welcome Desk for new international students arriving in Sydney to start their studies. The desk is run by enthusiastic local and international student volunteers as part of a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Program.
On Thursday, 25th May 2017, the student volunteers’ achievements were celebrated at the Airport Welcome Desk Acknowledgement Ceremony held at State Parliament House. ACU students, Holly Theodora from Indonesia and Seavmeng Hun from Cambodia finished this round of the WIL program. Their experience included a formal TAFE NSW training program as well as ongoing supervision and mentoring. They worked a minimum of 20 hours at the Airport Welcome Desk and had the opportunity to network with other students. At the ceremony they received a Certificate of Completion from the NSW Government.
Work integrated learning (WIL) integrates the theory of learning with the practice of work. It is often referred to as placement, professional experience, clinical education or internship.
ACU is proud of its student volunteers and thanks them for their commitment to making this initiative a success.
