Starting university can be a challenging time and even more so for our international students as they settle into a new way of life away from family and friends. ACU has tailored Orientation Week to help our new international students familiarise themselves with the campus, meet the staff, learn more about Australian culture, and most importantly, meet new friends.
We are pleased to announce the week and enrolment went well due to the high number of volunteers, improved signage around campus, and staff spending more time with students.
This year, we are thrilled to announce two new initiatives that can help our students meet friends and make the most of their university life.
International Mentoring Program (IMP)
Launched in 2017, the IMP joins together the ACU Careers Services, Student Enrichment and International Student Club. The IMP gives students the opportunity to meet their mentors and meet new friends through social activities and games.
ACU mentors help students engage in university life from day one. They can contribute to their professional and personal development, and make a real impact on students’ lives.
Below are some of the testimonials from the program:
“I had an awesome experience with this program from the very beginning. It helped myself to build up my self-confidence, and I managed to have links with many others students who are very helpful. I would strongly recommend everyone to join such program. It’s always good to join these program and very fruitful for us in many ways.” IMP Mentor
“The mentoring program was helpful especially for the first few weeks to settle into the uni environment.” IMP Mentee
The Campus Tour Game
This orientation was the launch of ‘The Campus Tour Game’. Existing students were grouped with newcomers and given a booklet with information on the most important facilities and services at ACU. With the help of volunteers and campus staff, the groups had 30 minutes to find the marked locations with a reward waiting! The game helped student’s familarise themselves with the campus, meet new friends, and work together in a team.
