TAFE Students
'Alternative Entry' qualifications can help you gain entry
You can use life skills for entry into university as well as previous work experience. Study through TAFE/CIT Colleges and other training providers can also help you gain entry. We encourage you to take a STAT test if you have not undertaken any formal study.
How a STAT test can help you
- Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is a two-hour aptitude test that assists applicants to demonstrate their potential for tertiary study and helps tertiary institutions make their selection decisions.
- the test is widely accepted and is used by most tertiary institutions.
- A STAT result may improve your chances of selection. If you are using 'Alternative Entry' qualifications, you may consider sitting the STAT if you have completed the following:
- Senior External examination subjects,
- Competency-Based Training or
- the Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation.
All states and territories regularly hold STAT tests. Register to sit the next STAT test in your state or territory:
- VIC – www.vtac.edu.au
- NSW/ACT – www.uac.edu.au
- QLD – www.qtac.edu.au
You should also lodge any statements relating to work or other supporting documentation should be lodged with your application.
Credit for study at TAFE/CIT Colleges
Australian Catholic University (ACU) has a number of agreements with TAFE's including:
- Box Hill TAFE
- TAFE NSW and
- Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE.
You might be eligible for admission into the second year of some courses or may receive exemptions for units previously studied.
Students who are completing, or have completed, a National Training Package, Diploma or Advanced Diploma may be eligible for credit for comparable study.
The Credit Transfer Database and Credit Matrix pages contain information regarding the agreements and credit schedules between ACU and TAFE's or Registered Training Organisations (RTO's).
If your course or where you have studied, or are studying, is not listed you may seek credit for study on an individual basis by filling out the Credit/Recognition of Prior Learning form, (called the "CR form" (PDF, 68kb).
