Sister Kath Burke rsm

Sister Kath Burke rsm was awarded Australian Catholic University's (ACU National) highest honour, Doctor of the University (honoris causa), at the University's Brisbane Campus (McAuley at Banyo) graduation ceremony on Wednesday, 10 May 2006.

The honour was bestowed upon the Sister Kath by the University in recognition of her never-waning commitment in her various roles as Sister, teacher, lecturer, advocate and member of various groups. Speaking about Sr Kath, ACU National Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Sheehan AO said,

"Sr Kath is one who accepted both the vision and challenge to make a significant difference in the lives of many. As a Sister of Mercy, she has been a significant leader of change both in her own congregation and in the wider sisterhood in Australia. She addressed many issues reflected in the Vatican Council's documents, and has equally come to the fore in advocating for women."

Sr Kath provided the occasional address at the afternoon ceremony to more than 120 students graduating from the Faculty of Education.
