Eminent Australian Church Historian, Reverend Tom Boland was awarded Australian Catholic University's (ACU National) highest honour, Doctor of the University (honoris causa), at the University's Brisbane Campus (McAuley at Banyo) graduation ceremony on Wednesday, 10 May 2006 in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a priest, a teacher and an historian'

Speaking about Rev Boland, ACU National Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Sheehan AO said,

"Fr Boland's life and ministry have been devoted to the Australian Catholic church and its people, helping them always to understand their past, place the present in historical perspective, and draw wisdom and courage for the future''

Rev Boland provided the occasional address at the morning ceremony to more than 180 students graduating from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and Health Sciences'
