Youth Work

Graduates of this course are highly trained and skilled youth workers who are well-prepared to meet the needs and demands of young people in the community.

You will gain theoretical insights and practical competencies to enable you to work with young people in a professional capacity in a variety of public and community-based settings.

You will acquire the major competencies that characterise youth work and develop an understanding of the ethical issues that youth workers face. Understanding the issues confronting young people and developing both prevention and intervention strategies are important aspects of the course. Through work placements, you will also become familiar with the youth work sectors.

Career pathways

Youth workers gain employment in a number of settings. These include schools, civil service, hospitals, corrective institutions, local government, church administration, charities, youth work organisations, Christian organisations and youth agencies both in Australia and overseas.

Hear from our graduate Rebecca about how studying Youth Work has helped in her career as a Multicultural Youth Worker.
