Description

The course aims to provide students with the basic elements needed for successful youth ministry in a Christian church or church-related agency. These include a basic knowledge of the Christian tradition, Scriptures and spirituality so that they can assist young people in their personal faith journey. At the same time students are provided with a basic knowledge of youth culture and the skills needed to assist youth in their own specific circumstances.

The course caters to a specific and growing need within the Christian churches, a need especially felt within the Catholic Church following World Youth Day. The course will allow students to focus on the moral, spiritual and religious development of youth, and will equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to assist youth in facing the many challenges of contemporary society. It is expressive of the Universitys responsiveness to the needs of the local church and the needs of young people in the life of the church. The course may also serve as a template for other offerings in ministry, such as childrens ministry, parish ministry and ministry of the Word.
