Bachelor of Theology

Qualify with insight into the history of the Christian tradition and the breadth of current theological scholarship, as well as a critical and detailed understanding of biblical studies, Christian thought, Christian practice, philosophy, the liberal arts and the study of non-Christian traditions, allowing for specialisation in some of these areas.

The Bachelor of Theology now includes a stream in the study of religions. This stream, which offers studies in Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Indigenous Spiritualities, ethics and peace studies, and interfaith dialogue, complements the offerings in traditional Christian theology. Students who attain a credit average may apply to do the Master of Social Work offered in Brisbane, Canberra and Strathfield.

Description

This course offers students the opportunity to pursue either an in-depth study in scripture, theology and philosophy or a broader based program in theology studies, within the Catholic tradition. Within this Catholic perspective, students will reflect critically on the meaning of Christian faith in an ecumenical and interfaith context.

In theology at Australian Catholic University you will have the opportunity to learn about religion and how it influences the modern world, to read and appreciate scriptural and historical texts, consider the intellectual and academic basis of core faith teachings and engage in debate about contemporary ethical dilemmas.
