Theology
Are you interested in the meaning of life?
Do you want to explore the big questions of life, the universe and everything in a critical and sustained way?
Theology will give you the opportunity to learn about religion and how it influences the modern world as well as to read and appreciate scriptural and historical texts. You will also consider the intellectual and academic basis of core faith teachings and engage in debate about contemporary ethical issues.
Students have the opportunity to engage in an indepth study of the Christian tradition, bringing together scripture, ethics, beliefs and practice to explore contemporary issues such as interfaith dialogue, social justice, and ethical dilemmas (e.g. cloning, armed conflict).
Career pathways
The skills and competencies gained through the study of this course are transferable to almost any work environment. Graduates are equipped with strong research skills and the ability to exercise critical judgement. They are able to work with abstract conceptual structures and engage in strategic thinking. Bachelor of Theology graduates can also formulate an effective response in situations which are ethically complex. Understanding the presuppositions and impact of conflicting ideologies is also an important skill graduates can employ in their careers.
There are many career opportunities for Bachelor of Theology graduates such as parish associate, teacher, probation officer, pastoral counsellor, care worker, trainer and facilitator, charity policy analyst, fundraiser, journalist and ombudsman roles.
Not-for-profit organisations, church-based organisations, chaplaincy work, educational institutions, unions, conservation projects, justice and peace centres, government agencies and non-government organisations, law, areas of management, community organisations and some levels of administration are all possible future working environments.
