Career pathways

ACU Nationals Bachelor of Social Science graduates will be equipped to think critically, maintain independent judgement and employ strong research skills and analytical and communication skills.

Employers in a variety of fields value these skills. Social science graduates are often employed as evaluators, policy analysts or advisory officers in a range of government departments, government ministries and local government. They develop policy, provide advice and monitor and evaluate policy implementation, impact and outcomes. Private sector jobs are available in areas such as human resources, market research, broadcasting and management consultancy. 

ACU National Bachelor of Social Science (Counselling) graduates find employment as professional counsellors in a number of settings including counselling agencies, hospices and hospitals, industry or school settings.

Counselling and therapy is also a popular choice for graduates to work where they help people with a range of emotional problems. Alternatively, graduates may look to advising and supporting people in such areas as employment, career choice, welfare rights or debt. Social and community care is a popular field, supporting specific groups such as families, young people, older people, people who are homeless or people with disabilities. Charities and voluntary organisations also require the skills of counsellors.
