"I decided on postgraduate study because I wanted a career change. I initially started my study at another university, but wasn't entirely happy there so started exploring other options. I chose ACU because I had been impressed with how friendly and approachable the staff were, and I appreciated the focus on community engagement.
What I've learned at ACU has been enormously influential in helping me to establish my new career path, and I've been able to learn a lot about the possibilities of the profession.
There is a real practical component to the degree, and I am currently completing a placement two days per week at the ACU Melbourne Psychology and Counselling Clinic. I consider working as a clinical psychologist to be a privilege. People trust you with their personal struggles and challenges, and provide you with the opportunity to support them.
I've also enjoyed the research aspect of my studies, and love learning about psychology-related issues I previously knew nothing about.
I'm proud I've been able to create a new career path. It was a big move, and to be honest I didn't realise how much work and sacrifice would be involved, but I've stuck with it. It's important not to lose sight of the bigger picture and to remember your goal."
