Psychology

Do you want to professionally develop your interest in the study of behaviour and mental processes?

This course provides a comprehensive coverage of the discipline of psychology, within the context of issues and practice in the community. You will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to enable you to progress to postgraduate training in psychology (the next step for career preparation to be a professional psychologist).

If you wish to move in alternative career directions, completion of this degree will offer potential employment in a broad range of areas including counselling, human resources and marketing, child welfare, community work and education.

Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Psychological Science degree is recognised by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council as an accredited three-year undergraduate degree in psychology.

Career pathways

Graduates from the Bachelor of Australian Psychological Science program will be eligible to apply for fourth year studies in psychology at ACU National or other universities.

ACU National offers two fourth-year programs: the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) degree and the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology.  These degrees allow students to build on the knowledge gained in one of the majors completed in the pass degree, and to develop further research techniques appropriate to psychology. The course includes the writing of a research thesis, along with completing relevant coursework units.

Students who complete the fourth-year program will be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist in Victoria or Queensland, as well as for associate membership with the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. Following completion of the fourth year, ACU National offers a range of postgraduate professional courses and research degrees in psychology. 

Without pursuing further postgraduate study, many of ACU Nationals Bachelor of Psychological Science graduates are successful in entering careers in community work, counselling, human services, market research and welfare.

ACU National also offers programs in social science, social work and youth work.
