The Certificate III in Individual Support is a nationally accredited qualification that will give you the practical skills and knowledge to provide person-centred support to older people within the community and/or a residential setting. The course has been designed in consultation with industry and includes both theory and hands-on learning.
You will learn to communicate and work in health and community services, providing physical, social, and emotional support to clients. You will also learn how to work as part of a team with other professionals, such as nurses, health care workers, and support workers.
Students who are looking for a rewarding career in aged care residential care settings and have a passion for caring for older people. This course is also suited to students looking for a potential pathway to the Diploma of Nursing at ACU.
Students are required to complete 160 hours of practical placement with one of our industry partners. Placement is organised into two blocks over the duration of the training program. You will not achieve competency in a unit until the allocated placement hours have been completed and verified by the workplace supervisor and the ACU assessor. You will be provided with a work placement book where you are required to keep a daily journal on tasks performed during you time on placement.
Students must also be 18 years of age by the first professional experience placement and must obtain a current Police Check.

Students who have successfully completed the Certificate III Individual Support may also gain entry into the Diploma of Nursing. To gain entry, you must also successfully complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and Pre-Training Review (PTR) for the Diploma of Nursing. ACU College offers students enrolled in the Certificate III Individual Support additional language and literacy tuition throughout the course to help you prepare for LLN testing.
