Midwifery
Midwifery goes beyond the birth of babies. Core midwifery skills include managing normal pregnancy and childbirth and providing effective postnatal maternal and newborn care.
All women require care during pregnancy and childbirth which is not only safe but also meets their individual psychological, emotional, physical and social needs, including spiritual needs.
This course enables graduates to be eligible for endorsement as a midwife upon completion. Traditionally, a midwife has had to undertake a three-year nursing course and then completed a postgraduate qualification in midwifery.
The aim of this course is to educate individuals to work as competent midwives at a beginning level. Graduates may be employed within any maternity setting according to the internationally defined role and scope of practice of the midwife.
Professional recognition
Graduates will be eligible to seek certification/registration as midwives in all Australian states and in selected countries.
