Certificate in Educational Studies

This is a non-award course that provides access to educational pathways and award courses and formal recognition for units successfully completed at university level. The course includes units from the first year of education degree courses and provides an introduction to tertiary education and to teaching.

Eligibility

An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent.

Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales
Assumed knowledge:
A minimum Band 4 in English advanced, standard English or English as a Second Language and in general mathematics, or completion of mathematics or extension mathematics to an equivalent standard.

Queensland
Prerequisites:
English (4, SA).
Recommended study: Mathematics A.

Victoria
Prerequisites:
Units 1 and 2 general mathematics or mathematical methods (either). Units 3 and 4 a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.

Description

The aim of the Certificate in Educational Studies course is to meet the needs of Australian students from diverse backgrounds with a range of interests who wish to study a non-award program as a means of accessing higher education or to obtain recognition for units successfully completed.

The major objectives of the course are to:

(a) promote student access to educational pathways and award courses, including students from equity groups;
(b) facilitate student access and achievement in higher learning.

On completion of the courses, students will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

(a) critical and analytical abilities;
(b) enthusiasm to search for further knowledge and understanding;
(c) open-mindedness and receptiveness to new ideas;
(d) expertise in chosen academic field;
(e) knowledge and skills to meet relevant professional requirements;
(f) understanding of and commitment to professional ethical standards;
(g) communication and interpersonal skills in working with clients and colleagues;
(h) commitment to values consistent with the Universitys mission;
(i) a spirit of service to the community;
(j) commitment to good citizenship, including respect for individuals, empathy with persons of differing cultural and religious backgrounds, community responsibility and concern for the environment.


English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.0 with 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.

To be eligible to enter the Bachelor of Education (Primary) or other pre-service teacher education degree, students must gain IELTS 7.0 with 7.0 in each of the sub-tests.
