Description

The Associate Degree in Early Childhood (mixed mode) course is specifically designed for, and is only available to, Australian Indigenous people.

The Associate Degree in Early Childhood (mixed mode) is designed for progression into the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) (mixed mode) course.

This course is designed to offer studies in:

  1. early childhood education
  2. literacy, mathematics, science and technology education for children; and
  3. Indigenous culture and history.
This course is offered in mixed mode. Students are required to attend compulsory residential schools on campus each semester and to complete course work and assignments within their home communities. Academic support is available to students who require it through the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS). Professional experience is also a compulsory component in each semester and is taken in day-a-week and block-periods that can extend over some weeks.

Professional Experience

Students must complete professional experience units during which time they are required to be available full-time.

Other Prerequisites to Undertaking this Course

Students accepting a place in this course are required to participate in a number of professional placements throughout their program. In order to participate in professional experience it is the responsibility of each student to ensure that they are able to successfully complete the child protection screening required in their state. Child Protection Training is provided on campus during residential school to meet the NSW requirements. A Working with Children Check is compulsory for each student. This enables participation in compulsory professional placement, a requirement for course completion.
