ACU offers a variety of programs in this area at both bachelor and masters level, specialising in birth to five years, early years (birth to 12 years) and early childhood primary.

Early childhood educators teach the basics of numeracy, literacy, music, art and literature to early childhood students and support students' social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. We recognise that an early childhood educator is likely to teach a diverse range of students so these courses have been designed to provide graduates with a solid understanding and skill set to deal with social, cultural and developmental diversities.

Bachelor degrees
Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Birth to Five Years)
You will develop an understanding of the importance of the early years and your role as an educator through a balance of practice and theory.

Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary)
You will graduate with dual qualifications, so you can choose to be either an educator in an early childhood setting or a primary school teacher.

Masters degrees
Master of Teaching (Early Years)
You will gain a new set of skills in the understanding of contemporary education issues and discourses. You will also learn high-level critical and evaluative skills so you can teach in early childhood settings through to Year 6 in primary school.

Master of Early Childhood Education
Designed for four-year trained teachers, graduates are qualified to be early childhood teachers and may seek employment in related children’s services agencies.

Whether you are a teacher or education administrator who wants to enhance professional practice and become a leader in the teaching community, our courses will help you achieve your goal.

You can choose to do the Masters of Education by coursework only, or you can combine coursework with a research thesis when you study.

Masters of Education
This course is for professionals who are associated with the practice of education and wish to advance their skills, knowledge base and qualifications. Specialist areas leading to a named specialisation include:

Master of Contemporary Literacies
This course is designed for teachers, educational leaders, researchers, school leaders, professional development/commercial service providers, policy makers, and other community stakeholders who want to develop professional knowledge and understanding of contemporary, evidence-informed literacy practices, policies and research.

Masters of Educational Assessment
For teachers, administrators and others who want to develop an understanding in educational assessment and become experts and leaders in designing and evaluating assessment policies and practices based on foundational principles and research.

Upgrade Qualification

If you are two or three year trained teacher you can upgrade your Diploma or Bachelor of Teaching qualification to a Bachelor of Education.

Bachelor of Education (Fourth Year Upgrade)
This course provides professional development for two or three year trained teachers to upgrade.

Undergraduate   Postgraduate

Contemporary understanding of disability acknowledges the rights of people with a disability to be full and participating members of society. Many people with a disability, particularly those with learning and intellectual disabilities, require either episodic or lifelong support to take their rightful place in society.

Our courses qualify you to work in this special interest area and give you the skills to be an advocate for the learning and development of people with a disability.

Further study will permit graduates of these programs to proceed to higher research degrees in this area.

Bachelor of Inclusive Education and Disability Studies
Develop a holistic view of disability and the social structures that influence learning and development for people with a disability. You could work in education, social justice, empowerment or advocacy – in the disability, community or human services sectors, or in a student support role.

Masters degrees
Master of Education (majors)
This degree is designed to encourage the critical appraisal of policy, theory and practice in the education profession. You can choose from different specialisations including:

Master of Educational Leadership
The Master of Educational Leadership is a values-based, research-driven practical program designed to support the capabilities of current and aspiring educational leaders wishing to enhance their capacity within the context of their professional setting and Australian Professional Standards for Principals (APSP). This course can be completed with or without a named specialisation, the named specialisations include:

ACU offers you the opportunity to gain the unique knowledge and expertise needed to educate young learners. If you have a passion for engaging with children from five to 12 years of age, our primary education programs will give you the skills and qualifications you need to become a successful, contemporary educator.

Professional experience placements will be undertaken in a variety of primary education settings, with options to complete placements in unique rural, remote and overseas settings.

As an ACU primary education graduate you will be eligible to apply for teacher registration in the ACT, NSW, Qld, Vic and overseas.

ACU offers religious education at a graduate certificate and masters level.

Whether you are a teacher, education administrator or someone who wants to become a teacher, our courses in religious education will see you assume positions of responsibility in the field of religious education at a school, parish or diocesan level.

Master of Religious Education
If you have a special interest in religious education at a school, parish, or
Diocesan level this courses is for you. It will enable you to have strengths in evaluation, research and to become a leader in religious education.

Graduate Certificate in Religious Education
This course is for primary and secondary school teachers who want to gain a qualification to teach religion.

Postgraduate Certificate in Religious Education
This course aims to provide students already familiar with education with a broader view that incorporates the perspective of religious education.


ACU’s secondary teaching courses allow you to graduate with a dual degree in a specialist area you’re passionate about.

As a secondary school qualified teacher you can work in Catholic and non-Catholic schools to educate junior secondary to VCE students in one or more curriculum areas including: English, drama, mathematics, physical education, music, science, history, languages and special education.

Graduates will be able to prepare daily lessons, set and conduct testing, exams and assignments, and provide student progress reports – along with many other tasks.

Graduates are eligible for registration as a secondary teacher in the ACT, Vic, NSW, Qld and overseas.

Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts
This course gives you the flexibility to combine your interest in humanities, mathematics, technology and visual arts with teaching. You will be introduced to the knowledge and competencies required by secondary teachers and gain a broad understanding of the practice of educators –¬ giving you the skills and experience you need to work in the classroom.

Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Exercise Science
This course provides you with the skills and practical experience required to be an effective classroom teacher with a knowledge base of how the human body works, from the psychological, anatomical, physiological, motor control, biomechanical, and nutritional perspectives, with a specific focus on the role of exercise in health, wellbeing and performance.

Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Science (New 2017)
This course aims to prepare graduates with the skills to apply a sophisticated understanding of a broad and coherent body of scientific knowledge to professional work in a range of science contexts within an education setting. Graduates will be qualified to teach science in high schools, including the senior years. Majors in Chemistry, Biology, and Environment will be offered.

Graduate diploma
Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary)
Graduates from this course are highly skilled educators who have a deep understanding of the social, political and cultural contexts that shape a school.

Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary)/Graduate Certificate in Religious Education
This course is for students wishing to teach religious education in addition to other secondary curriculum areas.

This course is for graduates who want to become a secondary school teacher and have an appropriate undergraduate degree.
