Types of Scholarships

Applications for 2010 Institution Equity Scholarships and Commonwealth Scholarships for Indigenous students open on 15 September 2009.  On-time applications close on 16 October 2009 and final applications close on 30 November 2009.

Commonwealth Scholarships for Indigenous students

Commonwealth Scholarships (CS) for Indigenous students are intended to facilitate choice in higher education and to increase participation of students from low socio-economic backgrounds by providing them with some financial assistance. There are  three (3) types of Commonwealth Scholarships available to Indigenous students:

  • Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS - Ordinary); up to 4 years
  • Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS - Ordinary); up to 4 years
  • Indigenous Access Scholarships (IAS); one off payment

Institution Equity Scholarships

ACU will award eighteen (18) Institution Equity Scholarships (IES) each year. These are the ACU National Equity Bursaries and they are intended to increase participation of students from low socio-economic backgrounds by providing them with some financial assistance.

Changes to Commonwealth Scholarships from 2010

Please note: Students who are currently in receipt of a CECS and/or a CAS will continue to receive their scholarship/s as per the original scheme for as long as they remain eligible.

From 1 January 2010 the Commonwealth Government will introduce two new scholarships which will replace the Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) and the Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS).  These are the Student Start-up Scholarships and the Relocation Scholarships.  Both scholarships will be administered by Centrelink:
