For those students who lack theological studies at a postgraduate level, the Graduate Certificate in Arts (Theology) serves as a prerequisite for the Master of Arts (Theology).
The course aims to introduce students to some of the principal subject areas of contemporary Catholic theology, in the context of ecumenical and inter-faith dialogue.
Professional Recognition
Professional recognition may differ between dioceses. Teacher applicants are advised to contact the Catholic or State Education Office in the area in which they teach to ascertain the status of the course.
Students who wish to proceed to further study upon completion of the graduate certificate are eligible to enter the Master of Arts (Theology) course. If they do not wish to proceed to the full Masters degree (8 units), it is possible to exit from the Masters course with a Graduate Diploma in Arts (Theology) after completing four units from this degree. Teacher graduates of these two awards may be able to seek four-year trained teacher status with an employer. Applicants are advised to discuss these possibilities with their local Catholic or State Education Office.
