Master of Educational Leadership

The Master of Educational Leadership is specifically aimed at creative, energetic and innovative teachers and administrators who want to enhance their professional practice and demonstrate their potential to be professional leaders in their school community or within their organisation.

This course aims to explore the often divided worlds of teaching and leading in conceptually sophisticated and strategically powerful way, so as to nurture sustainable educational change, led primarily by teachers. This course will explore new concepts and approaches to teaching and learning that highlight the partnership of teachers and administrators in building a culture of leadership in schools, with a particular focus on Catholic Schools.

Students with a Student Visa will need to complete the program in minimum duration, study at least one subject on-campus each semester and must not undertake more than 25% of the program online.

Eligibility

An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
Apply directly to Australian Catholic University.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:

  1. four year Bachelor degree in education; or
  2. Bachelor degree in an area other than education and a Graduate Diploma in Education; and
  3. relevant professional work experience.

International students must also be able to demonstrate their English proficiency by possessing the minimum language requirements. Please refer to the University website.
Note:The Master of Educational Leadership course is also offered in other locations in Australia, depending on demand, in New Zealand and in Mauritius. Other locations in the Asia-Pacific region may also be available, dependent on student demand. Please contact the School of Educational Leadership for further information about units offered at these locations.

Applicants must have an overall academic IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in every band) plus the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor Degree in Education, or first degree in an area other than Education plus a Graduate Diploma in Education.

Description

The Master of Educational Leadership course is specifically aimed at creative, energetic and innovative teachers and administrators who want to enhance their professional practice and demonstrate their potential to be professional leaders in their school community or within their organisation. Recent Australian research has established that when teachers perceive themselves as leaders and are able to engage as leaders in the teaching and learning process, schools are transformed as learning communities. This course aims to explore the often divided worlds of teaching and leading in conceptually sophisticated and strategically powerful way, so as to nurture sustainable educational change, led primarily by teachers. This course will explore new concepts and approaches to teaching and learning that highlight the partnership of teachers and administrators in building a culture of leadership in schools. This program offers students the opportunity to explore in depth the unique dimensions of leading in Catholic schools, and has the flexibility to cater for those from other denominations and the public sector.


English Language Requirements

Applicants require IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of 6.5, including an individual score of 6.0 for all tests.
