Master of Education

Are you interested in pursuing a broad academic understanding in education?

The Master of Education allows professional educators to extend their scholarship and develop their expertise in the general field of education or in an area of specialisation. The course enables experienced educators to carry out advanced academic and professional study, directly relevant to their professional responsibilities and concerns.

Students will be encouraged to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of recent research and/or professional developments related to their program of study. They will be offered opportunities to engage and interact with other students from diverse professional backgrounds.

Eligibility

An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
Apply directly to Australian Catholic University.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:

  1. four year Bachelor degree in education; or
  2. Bachelor degree in an area other than education and a Graduate Diploma in Education;
  3. a health sciences degree with:
    1. three years experience; and
    2. a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education.

Special Entry

Applicants whose educational qualifications do not satisfy the requirements for admission to the course but who have equivalent knowledge, skills and/or competencies, demonstrated by relevant documentation, may be granted admission to the course, subject to approval by the designated Admissions Officer, in consultation with the relevant Course Coordinator or Head of School.

Applicants must have an overall academic IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in every band) plus the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor Degree in Education, or first degree in an area other than Education plus a Graduate Diploma in Education.

Description

The Master of Education (Coursework) course is designed for graduate students interested in pursuing a broad academic study of education. It provides studies in a range of academic areas, including arts education, career development, early childhood, education and training in professional contexts, information and communication technology, literacy education, mathematics education, pastoral care leadership, religious education, TESOL, and wellbeing in inclusive schooling. Up to three approved units may be taken from the Master of Educational Leadership and Master of Religious Education courses. Students will be encouraged to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of recent research, and/or professional developments related to their program of study. They will be offered opportunities to engage and interact with other students from diverse professional backgrounds.

Units are available nationally online. Some units in the course are available on campus depending on demand and special arrangements with external organisations and may also be available at other locations in Australia.


English Language Requirements

Applicants require IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of 7.0, including an individual score of 7.0 for all tests.
