About studies of religion

ACU Studies of religion texts

Our multicultural societies are home to a vibrant mix of religious beliefs and experiences. Studies of religion is an exploration of this diversity and its implications for contemporary society. You’ll explore the three Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism and Islam), religions practised in contemporary South and East Asia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander spiritualities, as well other spiritual and religious traditions of other Indigenous peoples from around the world. You’ll develop your critical awareness of the historical and contemporary aspects of each religion, as well as the need for interfaith relations and dialogue. And if you excel in your second or third year, you could be eligible to win one of two NCLS Research Prizes for Outstanding Research in Contemporary Religion.

Industry connections: the Fethullah Gülen Chair

The Fethullah Gülen Chair in the Study of Islam and Muslim-Catholic Relations aims to provide academic leadership in research, teaching and community engagement in relation to the study of Islam. Founded with full recognition of the plurality and diversity of Islam itself, the Chair will conduct research, assist in developing academic programs, and work towards promoting greater mutual understanding between Muslims and Catholics both in Australia and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The Chair is a partnership with the Australian Intercultural Society, a non-government organisation aimed at promoting greater dialogue between Australia’s various faith communities.
