Course: Certificate in Inclusive Schooling - for graduates
Course description
This course has been designed to support the regular classroom teacher in assisting children with special needs.
We will look at various assessment procedures, strategies and approaches that will be easy to use in the classroom context and will enhance mainstream teaching practice.
Whilst a diversity of theoretical perspectives will be explored, the course will be practical, linking into your classroom and demonstrating how course material and strategies can be adapted to suit different individual needs.
The course will also include strands on classroom organisational and management techniques as well as a strand on appropriate classroom resources.
Unit description
- Accommodating Special Needs in the Inclusive Classroom.
- Assessing, detecting, implementing and correcting academic problems.
- Inclusive practices involving the whole school and its community.
- Adaptation, Modification of Assessment and Evaluation in English and Mathematics when teaching students who have special learning needs in Literacy and Numeracy.
Course duration
120 hours (includes face to face lectures, observations and practicum).
Class size
Given the highly personal and interactive approach taken in the course the number of participants is restricted to 25.
Pre-requisites
Fully qualified teachers who are working in schools.
Certification
A Certificate will be issued by Australian Catholic University on successful completion of the course, based on satisfactory attendance and assessment.
Credit
Completion of this course earns credit towards the Masters of Education course.
Lecturers
The lecturers are highly qualified people who have had many years experience teaching and lecturing in this field.
Methods of instruction
The subject is designed around a mix of activities to build participant interest and learning. These include formal lectures, student presentations and interactive sessions.
The teaching strategies are highly interactive and are based on the premise that the most effective and rewarding learning takes place in small groups. The emphasis is on the transfer of learning to the workplace.
Assessment
Assessment will be progressive and participants must pass all sections.
