Doctor of Education (EdD)
240 credit points
Minimum duration: 3 years full-time or equivalent part-time.
Admission
A Master's degree in Education or equivalent, with an average of Distinction or equivalent.
At least five years' relevant work experience. Two confidential referee reports attesting as to the applicants suitability as a candidate for the degree and their capacity to complete the thesis (at least one must be an academic reference; one may relate to the applicant's professional experience).
Course Structure
Students are required to complete a total of 240 credit points, consisting of:
- 210cp from Thesis Units;
- and 30cp from Three course work units.
Thesis
The thesis units involve proposal defence preparation and presentation, ethics clearance, field work research, thesis crafting and completion, thesis defence presentation, and thesis examination.
Course Description
The Doctor of Education (EdD) provides an advanced course of study at the doctoral level like the traditional Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. The EdD is research based but concerned with the reflective application of advanced knowledge to problems of professional practice.
The Doctor of Education is designed to service the needs of professionals who wish to undertake doctoral level study so as to expand their theoretical bases for practice, to analyse current ideas and issues, and to address problems in educational practice.
Participants are encouraged to take up research questions that are relevant to their current or projected career interests.
English Language Requirements
Academic IELTS 7.0, including individual scores of 6.0 for all tests.
