Eligibility

An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent.

New South Wales
Recommended studies: English advanced, personal development, health and physical education; mathematics plus one of biology, chemistry or physics.

Queensland
Prerequisites: English (4,SA) and any one of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology or physical education (4,SA).

Victoria
Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English, and a study score of at least 25 in one of mathematics (any), biology, chemistry, outdoor and environmental studies, psychology, physical education or physics.

International
Equivalent to Australian High School Completion

Equivalent to Australian High School completion plus academic IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in all tests).

Description

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science course aims to produce graduates with a strong understanding of the processes and mechanisms underlying exercise assessment and prescription in a diverse range of populations from the chronically ill to elite athletes and with the capacity to apply knowledge and skills in an ethical, fair and respectful manner.
The course is designed to enable graduates who wish to gain employment in exercise science and sports science to meet the professional requirements for membership with the Australian Association for Exercise and Sport Science (AAESS) a first step towards practise in the area of exercise or sports science. Graduates will also be eligible for membership with the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER).

The structure of the degree provides flexibility in the choice of electives.

Elite Athletes

The University will consider admitting a limited number of students who have been competing in sport at a high level and whose achievements have involved a high level of training demand which has impacted upon their study program. Consideration is designed to assist those who have the potential to successfully combine sporting ambitions with the pursuit of academic qualifications. Please note that previous studies and academic performance are still considered. Applicants in this category should complete an Elite Athlete Applicant form which is available from the Forms website or from the Student Centre.

Professional Experience

Professional Experience is a requirement in the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science. Students will undertake three compulsory Professional Experience units across each of the three years of the course, one each year.


English Language Requirements

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of 6.5, including an individual score of 6.0 for all tests
