ACU graduate and singing sensation Ellen Reed has moved one step closer to becoming Australia’s next pop music sensation, advancing to the last eight contestants in Channel 9 reality program The Voice Australia.
The Bachelor of Arts (Music and Drama) graduate reached the coveted ‘final eight’ – after surviving a tense round of eliminations as the final 12 saw four competitors go home – impressing fans and judges with her stirring performance of Kelly Clarkson’s Since U Been Gone.
Ellen’s rock rendition of the 2004 smash hit earned high praise from special guest judges, Australian pop duo The Veronicas.
“I was blown away. You have such a powerhouse of a voice, babe. You have that rock-pop tone,” they said.
The Queenslander advanced to the quarter-final stage of the competition on the back of last week’s powerful performance of Demi Lovato’s 2015 ballad Stone Cold, surviving elimination at the beginning of Sunday’s program.
Ellen is one of two remaining artists making up Team Jessie J, led by the English pop star who has been a judge and coach on the program for the past two seasons. The winner of The Voice Australia secures a recording contract with Universal Music.
Ellen’s starring performances on the reality program come as no surprise, with the ACU graduate becoming a well-known performer, throughout Queensland, and recording artist, following the release of her debut EP Blur in 2013.
