30 June 2010: Australian Catholic University (ACU) nursing student Helen (Yilin) Liu has been named the Higher Education Student of the Year, in the Queensland-China Education and Training Awards program for Excellence.
Originally from Shanghai Jiaotong University in China, Helen is one of the highest achievers in the Bachelor of Nursing program at the Brisbane Campus.
A Brisbane International Student Ambassador, she accepted her award from Tim Mulherin, Minister for Primary Industries, Fisheries and Rural and Regional Queensland, at the Shanghai World Expo.
“Winning the Student of the Year award has enabled me to further share my incredible experience of studying in Brisbane with new contacts and media in China,” Helen said.
“Travelling to Shanghai to personally accept the award has also opened up new opportunities such as expanding my network of professional and government representatives in China and Queensland.
“I feel the award is as much for Brisbane as it is for me because the local community, lifestyle and world-class education institutions have made my Ambassador role so interesting and worthwhile.”
Helen is one of the highest achievers within the Bachelor of Nursing course at ACU, achieving a grade point average of 6/7.
Now in her final year of study, Helen plans to continue her ambassador work with Brisbane Marketing, focusing on activities specifically in China.
Managed by Queensland Education and Training International (QETI), this one-off Awards program acknowledges the achievements of Chinese students and alumni, and showcases Brisbane and Queensland’s significant and successful education partnerships with China.
