The award recognised Jan’s exemplary and distinguished service to ACU and its predecessor institution, Catholic College of Education, Sydney.
Current Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Craven, was joined by his predecessors Professor Peter Sheehan AO and Professor Peter Drake AM at the ceremony, along with Brother Ambrose Payne – the former Principal at Catholic College of Education.
In her role as Senior Administrative Officer, Jan worked tirelessly for the University for more than 23 years, serving the college principal and three vice-chancellors with distinction.
The pivotal role she occupied made her the first point of contact between the hierarchy of the Catholic Church, other university vice-chancellors, government authorities, Company and Senate members and staff of ACU.
Professor Craven, said through all these dealings Jan had been a magnificent ambassador with her calm, professional manner and insightful handling of the many sensitive matters that vice-chancellors are called upon to deal with.
“Jan’s work has at all times been reliable, efficient and thorough, and whatever crossed her desk was attended to with the utmost confidentiality and graciousness,” he said.
“She has lived the University’s Mission which seeks that all, staff and students alike, treat others with justice and dignity, to be ethical and to appreciate the sacred in life.
“Jan has epitomised these attributes and inspired all who have come into contact with her. She embodies all the qualities which the University hopes will characterise all staff and graduates.”
