2 July 2008: Australian Catholic University (ACU) Melbourne campus launches its first ever 'try before you buy' University Experience day for current year 12 students on 7 and 8 July.
The University Experience program offers students as well as non-recent school leavers the opportunity to experience the degree of their choice and interact with many of the ACU staff. Already, hundreds of students from across Victoria have signed up to the interactive sessions in the hope of deciding their future career direction.
Head of ACU’s School of Education Associate Professor Sue McNamara said the program is a fantastic opportunity for anyone thinking of going to university. “Participants get to see firsthand what it’s like to study a bachelor’s degree in areas like education, nursing, business, arts, exercise science, psychology or theology.”
“The program enables participants to experience our facilities, meet lecturers and see if the course and the career path they were considering is really what they want to do,” said Associate Professor McNamara. “The level of personal interaction with staff during University Experience is typical of ACU’s close knit community.”
Practical sessions include:
Study of the Mind: Psychology
Study of the Mind: Counselling
Experience Nursing: Resuscitation
Experience Midwifery: Anatomy
Exercise Science: Sport Testing
Arts: Get Animated
Working with Youth
Music in All Keys
Exercise Science: Beat the Best
Arts: Behind the Scenes
