ACU announces new Dean of Health Sciences

4 January, 2007: Australian Catholic University (ACU) has appointed Professor Pauline Nugent as its new Dean of Health Sciences.

Professor Nugent joins ACU from Deakin University, where she is currently employed as the inaugural Chair of Nursing Development. Prior to this, she was Associate Dean (Partnerships and Innovation) in the Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences at Deakin. Professor Nugent is also Chair of Victorian healthcare service Southern Health and a fellow of the Royal College of Nursing Australia.

ACU Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Sheehan AO said Professor Nugent, who will commence in late February, would oversee the University's outstanding nursing, midwifery and exercise science courses across all six campuses

"ACU is widely recognised as a leader in nursing education and Professor Nugent brings with her the knowledge, skills, professional acumen and experience to advance our work in this area," Professor Sheehan said.

"In addition, Professor Nugent will lead our innovative exercise science courses, which focus on the increasingly important disciplines of sports science, community fitness and health promotion.

"I am delighted to welcome Professor Nugent as ACU's new Dean of Health Sciences and wish her every success in furthering the University's great work in this area."

ACU's Faculty of Health Sciences offers a wide range of exciting health-focused undergraduate and postgraduate programs, many of which are developed in collaboration with hospitals and health fitness agencies in order to best meet industry needs. All students undertake field and clinical work experience. The faculty also has a strong focus on quality research.
