Hildegard of Bingen and The Living Light

Start date:
1st May 2015 6:00pm
End date:
1st May 2015 7:00pm
Location:
Signadou Chapel, ACU, 223 Antill Street, Watson Canberra

In this one-woman play, international mezzo soprano Linn Maxwell embodies the extraordinary life of 12th Century German prophetess, healer and composer, Hildegard of Bingen, who was canonised in 2012 and named a Doctor of the Church. Way ahead of her time and in a male-dominated world, Hildegard challenged the established authority of the Church, both philosophically and musically.

Accompanying herself on authentic medieval instruments including psaltery, organistrum and harp, Linn performs seven of Hildegard's original songs, and through the mystic's actual letters and writings, transports us to the turbulent times of the Crusades in Western Europe.

Hildegard's timeless universal message of spiritual truth, holistic healing and caring for the earth is more urgent today than ever.

This free event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served following the one-hour performance.

Please register online by 24 April 2015.

For further details please contact Megan Fauvet via email or by phone on (02) 9739 2169.
