- 1. Q. How often are new vacancies listed?
- A. Normally weekly on Fridays. Vacancies may be listed at other times following approval of the vacancy.
- 2. Q. How do I find out if my application has progressed?
- A. An applicant can check the progress of their application by logging in to the Applicant services area. To login, click on ‘Existing applicant login’ and enter your username and password.
- 3. Q. Do I have to complete the application in one sitting?
- A. No, on each page of the application form you will see a ‘Save draft and exit’ button. If you choose to exit midway through an application, you will be able to log in at any time later (prior to the advertised closing date) by logging in to the Applicant services area and complete the application.
- 4. Q. How do I change my password?
- A. Login to the Applicant services area and click on the ‘Change password’ link. This will prompt you to enter your old password and then nominate your new password.
- 5. Q. I have forgotten my password. What can I do?
- A. When you click on ‘Existing applicant login’, you will see a ‘Forgotten your password’ link. Clicking this link will prompt you to enter your email address. A new password will be emailed to you immediately.
- 6. Q. Can I update my personal details?
- A. Yes, you can update your details by logging in to the Applicant services area and clicking the 'Update profile' link.
- 7. Q. Are my personal details safe?
- A. Yes, please refer to ACU National’s privacy statement.
- 8. Q. Who sees my application?
- A. Potentially the following personnel may handle your application: members of the Human Resources Directorate, the nominated supervisor of the position, senior staff representatives responsible for the position and members of the selection panel.
- 9. Q. How does ACU select applicants?
- A. Selection of staff at the University is on the basis of the applicant's merit in relation to the selection criteria. It is the policy of ACU to provide equal opportunity in employment for its staff.
- 10. Q. What does ACU mean by Selection Criteria?
- A. Selection criteria identify and define the particular knowledge, attributes, qualifications and experience a person needs to successfully carry out the job. They provide a way for applicants to assess their own abilities against the University's requirements and help match the right person to the position.
- 11. Q. When am i required to address the Selection Criteria?
- A. When applying for a position at ACU, it is necessary that the essential selection criteria are addressed. Applications that do not specifically address the selection criteria may not be considered and progressed to the next step. Click here to view details on addressing the selection criteria.

- 13. Q. Can i still apply after the closing date?
- A. Applications must be submitted via the online application system by the closing date stated in the advertisement. ACU will not normally accept an application after the closing date unless prior arrangements have been made.
- 14. Q. Should i include details of referees in my application?
- A. You must include the names and contact details (email, postal addresses, phone and fax numbers) of three referees who may be required to comment on aspects of your prior work performance. Because of the type of information required, it is usual for referees to be persons who have supervised your work, or who otherwise have a detailed knowledge of your attributes against the selection criteria. When approaching a person to act as your referee, you should provide a copy of the advertisement and job description. Referee reports are normally obtained for every applicant who is interviewed and assessed as appointable to the position. If you are successful in gaining an interview, you may wish to alert your intended referees that they may be contacted.
- 15. Q. What is the selection process?
- A. All applications submitted by the closing date will be considered by a Selection Committee. If your application has been determined to have met the required selection criteria, your application will be short listed and you will be invited to attend an interview. - 16. Q. What happens if i am not short-listed for an interview?
- A. If your application is not short listed for invitation to interview you will be notified that your application has been unsuccessful. Normally this notification occurs after the recruitment and selection process for the position concludes through the Applicant services area.
- 17. Q. I have been short-listed for an interview, what should i expect and how should i prepare?
- A. Review the position description and selection criteria and prepare examples illustrating your ability to address the key requirements of the role. If you are called for interview, please notify the person contacting you if you require special arrangements (Refer to tips for the interview section).
