What You Need to Know

Definition of an Examination Clash

  • Two exams at the same time including any overlap.
  • Less than 2 hours between the exams where they are held on the same campus.
  • More than 3 exams scheduled on 2 consecutive days. (The University does not regard Friday or Saturday and the following Monday as consecutive days.)
  • An evening exam that finishes after 8.30 pm followed by a morning exam that starts before 9.30 am on the next consecutive day.

What to Bring to Your Examination

You should contact the Lecturer-in-Charge of the unit, to verify what materials will be allowable in the examination room.  Generally, students should bring pens, pencils, and an eraser to each exam.

You must bring your ACU Student ID card to the examination. Failure to do so may result in you not being permitted to sit the exam.

Student ID Cards

You are required to present your Student ID card to the examination supervisor/s.

If you fail to present your Student ID card at an examination you will be in breach of University Regulations, and you may not be allowed to sit the examination.

Commencement of Examinations

Times listed on the timetable are the actual start time of the examination. You need to be present at the examination room 15 minutes prior to the time listed on the timetable.

Once you enter the examination room you should proceed directly to your seat in silence and follow all instructions given by examination supervisor/s.

Late Arrival at the Examination

No student will be permitted entry to an examination room more than 30 minutes after commencement of the examination.

If you arrive more than 30 minutes after commencement, or fail to attend the examination, you should contact the Student Centre immediately. (See also Deferred Exams.)

Leaving the Examination Room

You cannot leave the room during the first 30 minutes of the commencement of the examination or during the last 10 minutes of the examination, except in the case of emergency or illness.

If you complete your examination early (more than 10 minutes before the scheduled finish time) and wish to leave the examination, you should raise a hand and remain seated until a supervisor has collected your examination papers, including any unused booklets which must be placed in sequence inside the first booklet. You must ensure that the covers of all used examination booklets are completed, with your name, student ID number, the number of questions answered and total number of booklets used. You must leave the exam room as quietly as possible so as not to disturb continuing students. Please also be aware of students undertaking examinations in adjacent or nearby rooms.

A candidate who has left an examination room without remaining under supervision will not be allowed to re-enter the examination room.

Conclusion of the Examination

You will be given a warning 10 minutes prior to the conclusion of the examination. At the end of the examination you must ensure the covers of all used examination booklets are completed, with your name, student ID number, the number of questions answered and total number of booklets used. Any unused booklets should be placed in sequence, inside the first booklet. You must remain seated in the examination room until your examination paper has been collected by a supervisor.

Examination booklets are the property of the University and are not to be removed from the examination room.

Food and Drink in Examinations

Food and drink are not permitted in most lecture halls and rooms, however, during examinations students may bring ONE clear plastic water bottle with the label removed.

Other Materials

You should not bring bags or briefcases with you to the examination.

Mobile phones, laptops, programmable calculators and electronic dictionaries are not permitted in the examination room.

Students must check with the Lecturer-in-Charge well in advance of the examination as to what materials can be brought into the exam room for use during an examination eg: calculator, text books (open book examinations).

Examination supervisors will be aware of specific materials allowable for each examination. Any unauthorised materials will be confiscated for the duration of the examination, and you may be found in breach of University Assessment Policy (PDF, 66.8kb) Updated 18 January 2008.
