Deferment

Applying for deferment

If you have been offered an undergraduate place at ACU you can apply to defer commencement of your course, for up to two years, at the time of responding to your offer.

International students apply to defer via the International Admissions Office.

Deferment is not available for postgraduate, honours and non-award programs.

Commencing your course following deferment

You must advise the University that you wish to commence your course following a period of approved deferment by submitting the online Commencement of Studies Following Deferment (CD) form.

The CD form must be lodged within the required timeframe for the semester you wish to commence your studies. If you have not lodged the form for any semester within the two year deferment period, your offer will lapse.

The CD form MUST be lodged by:

  • 30 November (of the year preceding) for Semester 1 commencement, or
  • 31 May (of current year) for Semester 2 commencement.

Note: Not all courses offer places in second semester. Information about course availability for Semester 2 is normally published in early April. If you are considering commencing in Semester 2 (of either year) you should visit Courses for further information about availability.

Visit Rule 12 Deferment of the Admission Rules for further information.

Interruption of studies already commenced

If you are a current student who has completed at least one semester of your program you may interrupt your studies (sometimes referred to as a ‘leave of absence’).
