Kristen worked as a social worker at various non-government agencies before becoming a child protection caseworker in 2003.
In 2006, symptoms of vicarious trauma appeared which quickly developed into an eating disorder requiring hospitalisation in 2009 and 2011. In 2016, she launched her book, Selfless – A social workers own story of trauma and recovery to set the record straight on selfless professions and the pressures those working in such industries can experience.
Selfless is Kristen’s story of a time that saw her give up the career she had dreamed of since childhood. However, Kristen doesn’t regret her choice to become a social worker and encourages others to enter the helping profession.
