Debbie is a social worker who has worked in a wide range of direct service positions such as financial counselling and housing support work. Over the last 15 years, she has established herself as a leading child researcher managing research projects within government, non-government settings and for the Institute of Child Protection Studies at ACU.
Debbie has developed innovative research methodologies and conducted research with vulnerable children, young people and their families on a range of sensitive issues including: young carers, adoption, homelessness, family violence, child safety and parental drug and alcohol use. She also has extensive experience in developing and providing professional development in the areas of child centred practice and family-aware youth work practice. In 2017, Debbie completed her PhD which focused on vulnerable children's perceptions and experiences of loss.
